Established in 2011, the division of breast surgery is one of the most prestigious divisions in Jilin University 2nd Hospital. Today, it has 14 faculties, 3 chief surgeons and upholds 5 master mentorships. Most of surgeons have been qualified through strict training programs and advanced their studies abroad.

　　The department of breast surgery provides innovative patient-centered care to prevent, diagnose and treat breast diseases, including breast cancer, Mastitis, compositive therapy of advanced breast cancer, breast benign tumor et.al. Our faculty can provide multidisciplinary care and clinical oncology expertise to patients diagnosed with breast cancer. At the moment, the department possesses 47 beds available and has been equipped with several state of the art medical devices, including 256-slice CT scanner, E-CT (Emission Computed tomography) scanner, 3.0T MRI scanner, IE33 Ultrasound Scanner (Philips), LINAC (linear accelerator, Varian), multifunctional monitoring apparatus, medical ventilater, ultracision harmonic scalpel system, ultra-low temperature freezer, the mammotome system et al. Hereby, the annul in-patient number is over 2000. And half number of the patients went thorough operation, which about 400 patients of them had been dignosed with breast cancer. The out-patient number can exceed 15000 per year.

　　In many cases, minimally invasive surgery (the mammotome system) is adopted. To improve surgical techniques and fulfill research projects, annually many doctors are sent abroad, such as, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, Korea, Japan. In recent years, the division of breast surgery has been taking charge of many research projects about breast diseases, publishing numerous research articles and clinical investigations. Also as a surgical training unit of Jilin University, the department of breast surgery of Jilin University 2nd Hospital involves actively in many medical education programs and accepts doctoral and master students for their clinical studies.

　　The first specialty and advantage of our department is the new MDT model which means radiologist, pathologist, breast surgern and oncologist sit together to provide the therapeutic schedule to the patients appropriatly and specifically. That means the patients can recive the most beneficial treatment they need. The breast surgern works with other disciplines to provide personalized, evidence-based survivorship care plans to improve health, quality of life, and clinical outcomes for our cancer patients and their families.

　　The second advantage that we have is the fancy instrument of our department. We have color ultrasonography that allows us to inspect the tumor of the patients all by our own. And mammotome can help us to do the biopsy more easily.

　　And thirdly is the technique that we use to do the breast reconstruction. We used implants and/or extended latissimus dorsi musculocutaneous flap to do the breast reconstruction after radical mastectomy. Till now there are over 20 patients underwent this procedure.
