Department of Medical Ophthalmology was established in 2005, majored in medical retina, uveitis, neurophthalmology and pediatric retina disease.
At present, there are 20 staff members served in our department, including 5 doctors, 7 technicians and 8 nurses. Four doctors are PhD.
In our department, there are almost all the equipment, which are needed in clinc, including confocal fundus angiography and optical coherence tomography (OCT) (Heidelberg), humphrey perimetry (Zeiss), OCT (Heidelberg), doppler ultrasound (Italy), BVI ophthalmology AB ultrasound (France), ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM), anterior segment camera (TOPCON), BQ900 anterior segment camera , corneal endothelial cell counter (TOPCON), KOWA fundus camera, the Roland traditional and multifocal visual electrophysiology detector (German) and Retcam3 children wide-field fundus imaging system. YAG laser machine (Germany Zeiss), multi-wave length fundus laser machine, pascal fundus laser machine, 810nm laser machine and 689nm laser machine.
The average annual completion of medical treatment in our department is about 70,000 cases, which includes a variety of common and complex retinal vascular disease, genetic and degenerative retinopathy, choroidal neovascular disease, common and complex uveitis, fundus tumors, optic neurological diseases.
Based on the traditional laser treatment, in 2007, we carried out photodynamic therapy (PDT) to treat choroidal neovascular disease. In 2013, we used pascal matrix laser to treat retinal disease, which was the first one in Jilin Province. From 2004, We have used 810 laser to treat Retinopathy of prematurity. The average annual laser treatment of variety retinal diease is about 5000 cases. The laser treatment of anterior segment also has a long history. It is about 20 years. Besides the treatment of glaucoma and after cataract, YAG laser is used to treat iris posterior adhesion, residual pupil resection and cutting of vitreous membrane. The average annual completion of laser treatment of anterior segment is about 2500 cases.
Over the past five years, there are six research projects in our department. Fifteen related papers were published, in which 7 were published in SCI journals and 8 in Chinese Core journals.
Xiao Jun, male, PhD, chief physician, associate professor, director of medical department of ophthalmology. Since graduating from Department of clinical medicine Bethune Medical University in 1996, he has been in Department of Ophthalmology in Second Hospital of Jilin University. As a visit scholar, he ever worked in the Department of Ophthalmology Chinese People's Liberation Army General Hospital, and in Doheny eye institute United States focusing on retinal disease imaging diagnosis, age-related macular degeneration imaging.
He is specialized in the diagnosis and treatment of ocular fundus disease, uveal disease and optic neurological disease. In Jilin province, Professor Xiao is the first one to use photodynamic therapy (PDT) to treat choroidal neovascular disease. At present, He has extended the PDT treatment to chronic central serous retinopathy, choroidal hemangioma, retinal capillary hemangioma. Since 2011, he carries out the anti-VEGF treatment of age-related macular degenerationt, neovascular eye disease, macular edema secondary to retinal vascular obstruction, diabetic macular edema and other diseases. Professor Xiao also carried out the laser treatment of retinopathy of prematurity, neonatal eye disease.
Professor Xiao is the member of visual electrophysiology group, Branch of the Chinese Medical Association Ophthalmology, standing committee member of Jilin Province optics institute laser medical branch, Jilin Province Medical Association ophthalmologist committee, Jilin Province Medical Association ophthalmology branch committee.
As the head of research projects, Professor Xiao has gained 2 funds from Jilin Province Science and Technology Office, and 1 from Health Department of Jilin Province.Professor Xiao has published more than 20 articles, of which 2 in SCI journals. 18 in Chinese Core journals.
